Belgium is one of the western European countries. Belgium hosts head quarters of European Union, which is located in a city called Brussels. Brussels and Antwerp are two of the most known cities and tourist destinations.
However in this write up, I am taking you through two small cities known as Dinant and Namur. I am parking Belgium and Brussels for another occasion.
Dinant is around 100 KMs away from Brussels 140 KMs from Antwerp. Its around 300 Kms from my residence in Netherlands [Place is known as Hilversum].
Dinant and Namur are very historic in nature. Both are very calm, scenic and well connected. Both are located on the valley of River Meuse. People are a mix of those who speak French, Dutch and Flemish.
I made use of Airbnb [Its a website where you can book accommodation or you can also offer your house as a place for others to stay] service to book a house for two days which was in a very scenic village, a few kilometres away from the main city centre.
Both cities have there own Citadel [Its more like a Fort] which were built centuries ago. The Citadels provide very attracting birds eye views of the city and its very relevant to also visit the connected museums and other historic spots surrounding the Citadels. Every tourist attraction is well kept, tourist information and guides available in English and many other EU languages.
Apart from a visit to Citadels, two of the most attractive things I found were a Rail Bike stretch – Its an old rail way track thats not in use these days, but there are rail bikes [Cycles] that we can cycle to travel over the rail way tracks and the scenery along was magnificent. And next to Rail Biking, Grotte De Dinant is another unknown, but impressive location. Its a natural cave and is unimaginably big and beautiful.
On a different note, I personally would not recommend to visit just Dinant and Namur if you are travelling a long way. Probably its a good idea to combine with Brussels and Antwerp. Antwerp is a very historic city with attractions all around and is also well known for diamond trade. Brussels or Belgium in general is well connected with India as well – many of the airlines operate flights to Brussels.
